Bridges

If a person is missing a tooth, a number of changes can occur that cause problems. The teeth around the missing tooth can begin to tip over or move into the missing space. Gaps can occur between the teeth around the missing tooth and food trapping can cause decay, periodontal disease and bad breath.

One solution to a missing tooth is a dental bridge. A bridge is a replacement for one or more missing teeth that is fixed in place and not removable. Bridges are made to look and feel like your natural teeth, they function like teeth and are extremely durable.

The existing teeth are used to literally create a bridge across the area where the teeth are missing. The bridge is fitted to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth, these anchor teeth are slightly recontoured to allow a crown to be placed over them. These two crowns are joined by a middle tooth which will replace the missing tooth.

When the bridge is cemented into place, the replacement tooth has the look, feel and strength of the original tooth. Our patients have found bridges to be comfortable, functional and very natural looking!  They can go back to eating whatever they please, even steak!

If you are missing a tooth, you should strongly consider having it replaced, and a bridge may be the best choice for you. Set up an appointment today to consult with Dr. Matt or Dr. Robin about restoring your smile.
